Why Do We Prefer Partnering with Influencers Through Affiliate Programs?

In the past, we invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in influencer marketing campaigns. However, when we analyzed the results, we realized the returns were far from cost-effective. Our campaigns followed a “pay-per-post” model, where we also sent a significant number of free products to influencers. Unfortunately, some influencers failed to deliver on their promises—they didn’t post a single piece of content about our products or brand, despite assuring us that they would once they received the items.

Our products are not inexpensive or compact; they are premium, high-value items with considerable shipping costs. While a few influencers did post content as agreed and received payment for their work, their posts lacked impact. They treated our products as mere household items in their photos or videos, providing no meaningful introduction or explanation of the product’s features or benefits.

As a result, our previous influencer marketing campaign ended in a significant failure. This experience taught us valuable lessons about the effectiveness of traditional influencer partnerships.

However, there were a few influencers who genuinely loved our products and created thoughtful, heartfelt content about them. After our campaign ended, some of these influencers voluntarily signed up as affiliates for our products through Amazon’s affiliate program. From this experience, we learned two major lessons:

First, running influencer campaigns based on a “pay-per-post” model is not effective. Instead, we should focus on inviting the right influencers—those who are passionate and aligned with our brand—to join our dedicated affiliate program. By shifting to a “pay-for-performance” approach, we ensure that our marketing efforts generate real results and create long-term benefits for both the influencers and our company.

Second, we realized that sending free products to influencers is no longer a sustainable practice. Instead, influencers must be willing to make an initial investment by purchasing the product themselves. This ensures that only those who are truly committed and confident in their ability to promote the brand effectively will participate

You see, only influencers who are willing to make an initial investment (purchasing the product) demonstrate their determination and commitment to partnering with the brand long-term. These influencers show that they are ready and capable of driving sales for the brand. On the other hand, influencers who are unwilling to buy the product naturally lack the confidence and dedication required to create impactful content that delivers tangible results.

Of course, once an influencer generates sales for our company—starting with their first four orders—we will refund the full amount they initially invested to purchase the product. The KT Folding Pull Up Bars are crafted from High-strength Alloy Steel / Aluminum and are externally protected with a “Powder Coating”. If properly maintained, primarily with indoor usage, they could theoretically last at least 100 years.
